History of Buffalo Bill Days

What is Buffalo Bill Day? The festival began as a commemorative ride from the Buffalo Bill Saddle Club to Buffalo Bill’s grave on Lookout Mountain. The trail rides started in the 1940s and expanded to a more elaborate celebration in the 1960s. The festival became the town of Golden’s largest and continues the long-standing tradition of honoring the Wild West today.

Buffalo Bill Days 2025

Buffalo Bill needs more than a one-day celebration. This is why his legacy will be celebrated all weekend between July 25 and July 27. There will be so much to see and do over the weekend that you may not fit it all in. Most activities will center around Parfet Park in Golden. Here are a few musts for your activity list:

  • Parade: If you don’t have time for anything else, the number one on your list is the Buffalo Bill Days Parade. The parade started the annual tradition and continues today as it travels down Washington Avenue. The parade will have horses, costumed performers, collectible cars, floats, and first responders. Secure your spot early since this event draws huge crowds.

  • Arts & Crafts Festival: Purchase unique and themed items from an extensive list of local Golden artisans. Handcrafted items available during the festival include homemade soaps, custom shirts, handmade jewelry, and Wild West artifacts.
  • Live Music: With over 30,000 attendees expected over the weekend, you can expect some of the best musical acts in the area to come out and perform. This year’s lineup includes Hazel Miller, Chris Daniels & the Kings, Kingpin Pose, and the Fuzzheads.
  • Pancake Breakfast: The Golden community doesn’t want you to be hungry as you enjoy the Buffalo Bills Days celebrations. Get up early on Saturday and head to the Golden Fire Department, where they will be hosting their annual pancake breakfast starting at 6 a.m.
  • Children’s Activities: From 10 a.m. on, the park will host a variety of games and activities to keep the little ones entertained.

Check the official Buffalo Bill Days website to stay up to date with all the event times and changes. Due to the size of the event and expected crowd turnout, delays and closures when parking should be anticipated.
